Mothers Day 2012 - Printable Fingerprint and Handprint Tree's

Cute little fingerprints on these gorgeous trees make the perfect Mothers Day present.

Not only for Mum but for Grandma and Great Grandma too! Slip them into a beautiful frame and you have the perfect personalised gift.

Note: You can use either tree for either hand or finger prints

Handprint Tree

This is probably the best option for one to two children. As there is only enough space for two sets of hand prints. If using this for one or two children do one or two sets of handprints (two hands) for more than two children do one handprint per child.

How to do a handprint tree

You will need -

* Printed tree printable - Print on cardstock (thick paper)
* Paint - Poster paint is best. Select one colour per child. Soft colours work lovely so mix a little white with the paint to soften the colour.
* Paint brushes - You will need one for each colour so you don’t need to wash it out in between children.Use a normal kids art paint brush.
* Baby wipes - For easy clean up.

Step one: Lay everything out on the table so you can easily reach it. If the baby wipes are in a packet pull a few out so you aren’t fumbling with paint everywhere trying to get them out.

Step two: Paint the child's hand with paint .... not too thick, just enough to leave a print on the paper.

Step three: Hold the child's wrist and with your other hand, guide the child's hand to the paper and push down. Make sure their fingers are spread apart. Push your hand over their entire hand including fingers to make sure the impression is of their entire hand. Quickly remove their hand.

Step four: Clean the child’s hand using baby wipes and repeat step three with the other hand.

Put the art aside to dry, out of the reach of little hands!

Step five: Clean up :)

How to do a fingerprint tree

The finger print tree is done in a similar way to the handprint tree except you use ink pads instead of paint and

You will need -

* Printed tree printable - Print on cardstock (thick paper)
* Ink pads - You can buy these from art stores or spotlight in a range of colours. Choose pretty colours in pastal shades try and stay away from blue, black or brown.
* Clipboard - Place the tree print on a clipboard to make it easier to hold
* Baby wipes - For easy clean up.

Step one: Lay everything out on the table so you can easily reach it. If the baby wipes are in a packet pull a few out so you aren’t fumbling with inky fingers trying to get them out.

Step two: Place the print on the clipboard and clip it in place. Open the inkpad and coat the pad of your child’s finger in ink

Step three: Hold the child's wrist and with your other hand with the inked finger pointing out and place the finger on the paper at the end of the branch of the tree. It is easier to bring the print up to the child rather than trying to do it with the print on the table. The clipboard will give you the hard surface you need.

Depending on how many kids you have you may need to do a few prints per child to fill the tree. Ink the finger before each print.

Step four: Clean the child’s finger using the baby wipes.

Put the art aside to dry, out of the reach of little hands!
